The Church of England in Your Community
Torhild Fikseaunet is being ordained as a Deacon in the Church of England at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 29th June 2019 and will join the ministry team working with Reverend Christian Mitchell across the three Anglican churches in Heathfield – All Saints’ Old Heathfield, St George’s Broad Oak and St Richard’s Heathfield.
Reverend Mitch will be welcoming Torhild to the Benefice on Sunday 30th June at a joint Benefice Service of Holy Communion at All Saints’ Church, Old Heathfield at 10.30 am. This will be followed by a buffet lunch at 12.30 pm in THE SPACE at the Church.
Torhild, married to Runar her husband, is a mother of three and former teacher. The family moved from Stjørdal, Norway to Heathfield over the past weekend in time for the ordination.
Torhild’s vocational journey took off after a conversation with the chaplain in her home church five years ago, when she had just started articulating a feeling of being drawn towards ministry. By the grace of God, she has now completed her final year of theological training with the Eastern Region Ministry Course.
Torhild is fond of music having served for several years as a chorister in the Anglican Chaplaincy of Norway, as well as occasionally playing the organ.
Torhild joins the Benefice as a Curate, training for full-time ministry in the Anglican Church.
She will be working alongside Reverend Mitch for up to three years, before taking up a church leadership role of her own in due course.
This appointment coincides with the publication of the new Benefice Mission Action Plan which will be available from this Sunday. It sets out a clear and exciting vision for the future of the three Churches and their mission within the local communities.
