Mothers' Union Projects 2018

Heather Bruce, MU Branch Contact, said: “It was a very enjoyable and satisfying afternoon as we cut, sewed and chatted over lunch and to know that the material, which had previously been curtains, was put to such good use.

“It took us a little while to work out the best way to cut the material to be certain we had enough for all the cushions. Recycling or ‘up-cycling’ as we call it these days gave us a great sense of achievement but you can’t buy more material if you get it wrong!”

 Mothers' Union Collage

St Richard’s Mothers' Union Collage

The Mothers’ Union President of the Diocese of Chichester is commissioning a new banner and all our Branches were asked to supply a small collage depicting the activities that promotes the work they carry out locally.

At one of our meetings we agreed how we should try to show visually the work we do locally at St Richard’s Branch.

Thanks to the talents of Angela Nichols and some help from Heather Bruce they produced this collage between them. Quite a feat as the collage is only is 6 x 8ins (15 x 21mm) everything is in miniature requiring very delicate needlework.

The evening was a great success with around sixty ladies attending raising a total of £380 to be split between three Mother’s Union projects locally: two Holiday Caravans providing free accommodation for families under stress to have a seaside holiday at Winchelsea Beach or Selsey; the Eastbourne Contact Centre where supervised visiting can be arranged for divorced or separated parents to see their children and The Baptism Fund which provides a bible and anniversary cards for children who are baptised in any of the three Heathfield Churches.

The Mother’s Union would like to thank everyone who supported the event and gave so generously to support three of our very worthwhile local projects.

Look out for our programme of 2019 events coming out soon!
